Before you buy a home, you always want to know what you are getting into. No, I don’t mean the price, although that’s definitely a huge consideration. No, I mean the little things, the things that make you tear your hair out and ask yourself “What were we thinking?” Here’s why you really need to do your homework before buying a new home.
Check out everything that may annoy you. Start with the commute. Get in your car and drive that commute. Take note of everything. Do you pass a place to get coffee? Does traffic stop on you? Are you adding an hour to your drive to go another 10 miles? Know the commute before you buy the house. Don’t wake up the first Monday after you move and find out that you’re already late to work.
What’s the neighborhood like at night? Normal Open Houses are during the day, but what is it like when the kids are home from school and everyone is back from work? Does your neighbor’s teenager have a terrible garage band? Is your house the center of the cul-de-sac basketball court? Do your neighbors have loud barbeques, and NOT INVITE YOU? Find out what happens after dark on your street, or get used to stuff you may not want to hear.
Are the bathrooms setup for proper timing on getting ready for work? I know you have 3 bed, 2.5 baths, but Is that sufficient for everyone to get showered in the morning? Does one of you take too long and throw it off? You have to figure out if the layout of your home will work for you. After you figure out the commute, know who needs to get up when. All of a sudden, you’re waking up 2 hours early!
When you are buying a new home, these are things that you have to know before you sign on the dotted line.
